Classic Quad-Turboprop Battle! Lockheed L-188 vs Vickers Viscount

Alright, pretty simple, pick your favourite

Both are short to medium haul four-engined turboprop airliners of the 1950s. The Viscount sold considerably better than the Electra due to a few accidents with the latter shortly after it began operations.

  • Vickers Viscount

I like the Vickers because of the larger windows or at least they look bigger although the Lockheed looks better imo.

also the Electra sounds much better

Never seen any of these aircraft before but I’ll take your word for it.

YouTube: Am I a joke to you?

I wish I had seen an Electra

Probably yes. I’ll have a look soon at the aircraft.

The 1st just looks far sleeker in my opinion, not to mention a lot safer! Although certainly two beautiful aircraft which would fit nicely into classical aviation! Out of curiosity are they still in service? :+1:

That’s awesome! Doing their bit for the world! Don’t imagine they are too safe though are they? 4 engines that’s never a good sign. :joy:

Any plane with proper maintenance and well-trained pilots is safe. Of course you can’t expect a 1950s plane to be as safe as, say a 777
